The Prime Minister has now confirmed that the next General Election will take place on the 4 July 2024. The Pre-Election period has implications for Parish and Town Councils. We have compiled several resources to aid Councils.

NALC has opened nominations for its Star Council Awards 2024 to celebrate the achievements of the local (parish and town) council sector. The nomination period ends on 6 September 2024, cast your votes now.

Joint Youth Engagement Summit with SLCC, NALC and OVW

Imagine Norfolk Together brings people and resources together to build active flourishing communities. We work in partnership with faith groups, grass roots organisations and local government to bring about positive change. They have lists of warm spaces and free meals available in Great Yarmouth.

Norfolk Neighbourhood Watch Funding

Norfolk Police, working with Norfolk Neighbourhood Watch, recently applied for some home office funding through the PCC’s office to give Neighbourhood Watch a relaunch in the county and to strengthen the relationship between schemes and their local policing teams. We are reaching out to communities to ask that they consider joining or setting up a scheme in their areas.

New Health in Neighbourhood Planning Guide

Norfolk County Council’s Public Health have just published the Health in Neighbourhood Planning Guide. The aim of the guide is to help working groups consider how their Neighbourhood Plans can be used to improve the health and wellbeing of their residents. It contains lots of information which we hope they will find useful.

NALC Councillor Allowances Survey

We need your input! The National Associations of Local Councils (NALC) are conducting a Councillor Allowances survey to gather further information on parish basic allowances and dependants’ carers’ allowances in local (parish and town) councils. Your participation will help the sector better understand the needs and challenges faced by local councils and work towards addressing them effectively.

Wolfson Foundation – Support For Places

This grant programme provides support for places. These grants are for capital initiatives, i.e. buildings (new build or refurbishment) and equipment. Funding a broad range of organisations working across the fields of education, science & medicine, health & disability, heritage, humanities & the arts.

NALC Publishes The Good Councillor’s Guide 2024

National ALC have published an updated edition of The Good Councillor’s guide, an essential tool for all councillors. Designed to provide practical insights into the workings of local democracy and how councillors can effectively contribute to it. It serves as a stepping stone to becoming a good councillor. Additionally, it directs readers to local county associations, which offer essential training and development opportunities.

Skills Gap Focus Group

Anglia Rural Consultants are running a Focus Group, to discuss skills gaps in marine and coastal management and specifically want to hear from Councils that manage conservation areas such as community woodlands.
