Temporary reduced rate of VAT for hospitality, holiday accommodation and attractions

A briefing note, provided by the Parkinson Partnership, regarding the temporary reduction to 5% VAT for the hospitality sector, which will affect councils with bars, cafes, holiday accommodation, campsites, theatres and similar attractions is now available in our Documents section and is also attached below.

Both NALC and SLCC still strongly advise local councils to continue to meet remotely, without the need for face-to-face contact. If your council wishes to consider returning to face-to-face meetings we have produced a checklist to help ensure this decision is made in accordance with relevant regulations and requirements.

Play Areas

From 4 July these can also reopen but only if this can be done safely. Councils again need to risk assess these areas ahead of re-opening and consider signage relating to use of hand sanitiser and playing at least 1 metre apart. Children should ideally be supervised by parents to maintain good hygiene.
