Join the online event on planning and power, taking place on 28 July 2021.

The Planning White Paper in 2020 signalled a new sense of direction in the world of planning as the government seeks to meet housing targets and provide places for people to live. But at what cost to local democracy? Hear from an expert panel on where the local flow of power has gone and where it is going.The expert panel features:

• Richard Blyth, head of policy practice and research at the Royal Town Planning Institute, will discuss the institute's proposals on the Planning White Paper reforms in particular planning with and for people, and how development management and local plans can be improved.
• Hugh Ellis, policy director at the Town and Country Planning Association, will speak about the association's views on the Planning White Paper and the need to give communities a bigger say on planning matters.
• Cllr Anna Watson, Shipley Town Council, will speak about the council's experiences in the planning system since its creation last year and the need to prioritise carbon reduction and climate change mitigation in any future changes to the planning system.
